- This is a very versatile word that is VERY good for essay writing
- it can be used for describing an action anywhere between impinging on soil plant a tree to impinging on someone’s personal property or personal space or beleifs.
- If you look at the bare roots of the word you’ll see why it can be applied to so many things.

1. verb - To Collide or strike into/against
- His car impinged into another car because he was stupid and drunk
2. to indrude or trespass on something belonging to someone or something else (can be figurative or literal)

- so its meaning isn’t solid, for example you could impinge on a contract or an agreement

It has a number of beginnnings, this word has evolved a lot apparently and it’s kind of a combination of words but they all stem from the same meaning. I find it interesting. You might not, so read more if you want to be mildly amused.

- Comes directly from Latin cassis meaning “frame”
- it can also mean “empty, hollow, lacking, devoid of…” (from cassus, cassa (adj))
- Cassis is also used as the Latin word for “snare, hunting net,” and “spider web” which I guess makes sense when you consider the frame of something does tend to look like a net or a spider web.

- fabulare can mean “to chat or converse” but it can also mean “to make up a fable, invent a story”
- similarly, the word “fabula means a “story” or “drama/play” and it’s where we get the word for “fable”

This tip is mainly for making your essay sound better, this isn’t to say you should never use the word “opposite” but sometimes spicing it up with better vocabulary is a good idea.
“Antithesis” by definition is someone or something that is the complete opposite of someone/something else, so, keep that in mind :)
